We Love Color – quilting on solid ground

If you love working with solid fabrics, We Love Color is the latest “must-have” book for your collection. I seriously love it.

We Love Color

We Love Color includes 16 projects by popular designers, made solely with Kona Cotton Solids. No prints in sight!

Includes contributions by:
Lisa Call, Alissa Haight Carlton, Emily Cier, Malka Dubrawsky, Amy Ellis, FunQuilts (Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr), Jacquie Gering, Elizabeth Hartman, Rita Hodge, Cherri House, Kathy Mack, Jennifer Sampou, Valori Wells, Jean Wells, Betz White, Kajsa Wikman

A wealth of quilty talent!!

One of the projects included in the books, is the Lady of the Lake Quilt by Rita of Red Pepper Quilts (the bottom right quilt – pictured below).

I remember when I first saw the Lady of the Lake quilt on Rita’s blog. I was in awe of all of those perfect little triangles. I remember thinking how complex that quilt looked but that one day, I’d like to try it.

Well here is my chance. It is one of the patterns in We Love Color.

I’ve been inspired by We Love Color and have been working on my “solid” WIP – a project which I started about a year ago.

It’s always been one of those projects which I work on when I’m in between projects… and then quickly put away when inspiration strikes. It is made up with 4 kona cotton charm packs – 2 white and 2 were an assortment of solids.

I’ll blog about this quilt in another post – when I figure out how to finish it. It’s too small to be of much use right now, so I’m contemplating adding a wide border… but I’m not sure how to go about it.

Would a print border work?

Perhaps black/white spots or stripes maybe?

What do you think?

  1. I think it would look great with a black and white spot fabric like the one in your name (in your header)
Or a colourful stripe. As there is no print in the quilt a bit of fancy on the binding will add to the quilt rather than detract the attention from it.
Love the look of this quilt, thanks for sharing.

  2. How about white? And I love the idea of floating it, large strips of white, like its floating on a see of white. For more interest off set it, dont make it symmetrical

  3. I think a scrappy colored border, maybe a skinny white border first to have it stand out? or maybe not, but skinny long strips in lots of colors would be FUN!

  4. Personally, I like two ideas. a white strip to offset the wealth of pattern and colors and then squares of the colors used all around with a striped binding. The second I'd like is a very narrow border of white first and then a black and white polka dot with a b&w striped binding.

  6. thanks for showing a bit of this book. I saw it online the other day and am thinking about buying it. How about a piano key border with white on the inside and bits of color on the edge
