Chia, Chia, Chia – Review + Giveaway

Chia, Chia, Chia, oi, oi, oi!

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

Well perhaps not, perhaps it should be yum, yum, yum.  We love bread in our house, especially fresh bread.  I do love the smell of it baking in the oven, but honestly who has the time to make it.  Luckily the guys and girls at Bakers Delight are happy to get up before the birds and create a loaf or two.

Their newest creation is the Chia loaf (and rolls) so me and hubby (a self certified bread connoisseur) just had to try a few loaves.  At first the Chia seeds come as a little surprise with a little crunch in the bread, but soon you can’t wait to feel that bite of goodness.

Now many breads seem to advertise added this and that, it can be quite confusing.  Chia seeds (Salvia Hispanica to be precise) are an ancient seed used heavily buy the Aztec and Mayan civilizations, and have only recently been re-discovered as a super food.  Conveniently, Australia has ideal growing conditions, especially the Kimberly region of WA and is now the worlds leading producer.
So why the hype?  Well Chia is naturally high in Omega-3 ALA, dietary fibre and protein, all the stuff a healthy body needs.  It is quiet impressive that just two slices can provide enough Omega-3 ALA to supply 100% of a woman’s, and a child’s daily intake, lucky men would need to eat another slice!  There is a whole list of great nutrients in it, including Antioxidants, iron, magnesium, foliate and the wholemeal loaf has 25% more fibre than regular supermarket bread.  To find out more just click HERE.
Bakers Delight bake Chia bread in both white and wholemeal loaves as well as rolls.  It is baked daily, with no preservatives and contains the best bits of Australia.
However you like your bread, it tastes great.  Hubby tried it out with his favourite of Vegemite on toast for breakfast.  I loved it in a big tuna salad sandwich at lunchtime. The kids didn’t even notice the difference when they had some with cheese for an afternoon snack – so it certainly passed the “kids” test.

  15. I used to live on peanut butter and golden syrup sandwiches - before Heidi arrived with her nut allergy.

Now I rather fancy ham and cheese sandwich, made with fresh bread and just sliced ham and brie cheese.
